Rio Linda native Cam Skattebo delivered a standout performance as Arizona State University upset No. 17 Utah 27-19 at Mountain America Stadium on Friday night.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for the Sun Devils, who were picked to finish last in the Big 12 Conference at the beginning of the season. Utah, on the other hand, was favored to win the conference.
Skattebo, a senior running back, rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He also contributed four catches for 41 yards. His impressive performance helped propel the Sun Devils to victory.
ASU’s defense also played a crucial role in the win, intercepting three passes from Utah quarterback Cam Rising. Caleb McCullough, a standout defensive back, intercepted two of those passes.
The victory improved Arizona State’s record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12. Utah fell to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Skattebo’s success at Arizona State is a source of pride for the Rio Linda community.
