Twin Rivers police arrested an 18-year-old student yesterday for bringing two guns – one loaded – onto the campus of the Pacific Career &Technology High School in North Highlands.
The man is identified as Jaison Andrade. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing concealed firearms on a school campus after police officers and a canine unit from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department searched the North Highlands campus and found two 22-caliber handguns in a backpack.
School officials were alerted to the presence of the weapons at 10:35 a.m. by the mother of a student who had heard that someone had brought weapons on campus. The school was locked down and searched. A Sheriff’s Department canine named Rocky found the guns.
Twin Rivers Unified officials said the 18-year-old will face an automatic referral for expulsion.
“Like other school districts around the country, we are always on a heightened sense of awareness about potential threats to our schools,” Superintendent Steven Martinez said in a news release. “We have safety procedures in place, and we are constantly reviewing those procedures and district protocols in order to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.”
