In a new release made today, Twin Rivers Unified has said that they will begin using metal detectors at high school athletic events as part of new security measures.
Tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 28, the district will screen all fans attending the home football game between Grant Union High School and Laguna Creek High School. The use of metal detectors at other TR high school campuses is under discussion as an added safety precaution for our students, staff, families, and community members attending sporting events.
To be clear, all fans will enter the stadium through metal detectors.
Bags will be checked and fans may be subject to additional searches if necessary. We believe this new procedure will enhance safety protocols already in place and improve the overall experience for families attending large sporting events at our high schools.
Other safety protocols include:
- No backpacks
- Students 14 and younger who do not attend Grant Union High School must be accompanied by an adult at all times
- All students must have a student identification card
- If individuals leave the stadium, they will not be able to return
- Fans engaging in disruptive behavior will be escorted from the stadium and school grounds, and could be banned from all future sporting events on our campuses
TRUSD encourages all fans to plan ahead by arriving early and following all protocols.
