Special to Rio Linda Online by Jane Royer
First of all, thank you so much for all the pies you have bought from the Church of Rio Linda. We have felt honored to know that many of you have made “church pies” a family tradition.
As you may know, our biggest pie sales were at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The profit from the pie sales helped pay our flood insurance premium. The Church of Rio Linda is located in a flood way, so there is always a chance of flooding during heavy rains. The building is not constructed in a way that enables us to raise it to eliminate the threat of flooding, so we always make sure the flood insurance is in force.
2017 brought a few surprises. At the beginning of October we left on vacation. Our plans were to visit relatives and friends in Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. We had a great time, but our vacation came to an abrupt end. While visiting in Newark, Arkansas, I fell and broke my back (L-1 and L-2) and underwent surgery in Little Rock, Arkansas on October 24.
Everything seemed pretty bleak after surgery, but thanks to prayer, I eventually came out of it and began the slow road to recovery. There were 6 weeks of rehab, and I finally made it back home in December.
Less than a week later I was in the hospital again with blood clots which led to a stroke. A week in the hospital and 3 weeks in a skilled nursing facility took another month.
Now for the good news! I’m on the mend, happy to be alive, and looking forward to getting back to my former self. Progress has been slow, but at least there is progress.
As for the lack of the 2017 holiday pies, we sincerely apologize for the trouble this may have caused you. Many of you were so kind, and donated to a Go Fund Me to help cover the insurance cost. Thank you very much and God bless you for being so thoughtful. And, yes, we were able to get it covered!
As of now, Pastor Royer is busy making cobblers. He actually does a great job! We’re trying to make room in the freezers for the new crop of blackberries. I’m not up to pies yet, but hopefully will be before much longer.
Again, thank you very much for your thoughts, concern, and prayers. God bless all of you!
We would be happy to hear from you. (916-991-6766) or (916-216-3550)
