In general, Rio Linda and sister city Elverta are quiet, bucolic, rural communities. While we do have our occasional Saturday night shooting or the far more common domestic dispute, we rarely see the type of crime that we’ve experienced over the last 48 hours.
Yesterday morning around 730am, the Sacramento County Sheriff received a call from what they call “a neighboring law enforcement agency”.
This unidentified agency said that they had contacted a resident at a home in the 6500 block of Rio Linda Boulevard by telephone. The agency stated they were “concerned (that) a medical emergency had occurred in the home after speaking with an adult subject they had contacted (regarding) an unrelated matter.”
Metro Fire responded to the residence and found an adult female victim with “severe trauma and obviously deceased.”
Deputies responded to the residence and secured the scene.
Homicide detectives have detained who they believe is the sole suspect for this murder.
The victim will be identified by the Sacramento County Coroner.
Then… around 9am this morning, Sandy Shinn, the owner of Tummy’s Sub Shop on M Street, was stabbed in what appears to be an attempted robbery. SSO responded, but the suspect had fled the scene. After speaking to the Sacramento County Sheriff PIO, the official description is white male, black hoodie.”
CSI did respond to take prints from an interior door frame.
I understand that Sandy is at home recovering and is in good condition.
I have multiple calls into the Sheriff’s Office to speak to the Public Information Officer. I will update you with relevant information as soon as I receive it.
edit: I received a call from Sgt. Grassman, the Sheriff PIO. He confirmed that the suspect is NOT in custody and confirmed the suspect’s description. The next communication regarding this event will be when an arrest is made.
